It's no surprise that the SuperBowl is known for having some of the best running ads of the year. Every year companies like Nike, Budweiser, Airbnb, and Doritos create some of the best Superbowl ads of its time.

Early January as everyone was getting prepared to watch the end of the football season, they were also looking forward to the commercials that we would be enlightened with this year.

Of course, not everyone wants to sit and watch the actual football game to see the ads so here I compiled a list of the Top 5 Superbowl Ads of 2020 so you don't have to!

1. Google “Loretta”

The first ad is the Google “Loretta” ad. This Google Superbowl ad brought everyone to tears.. (literally). This 90-second clip consists of a Grandfather asking his Google Assistant to help him remember things about his late wife “Loretta”. He asked to see photos of him and Loretta that included the things she didn't like about him, aka his mustache and the trips they enjoyed the most. The ad ends most sentimentally when he states, “I am the luckiest man in the world”...don’t worry, we cried too. Google did a great job of applying emotions to their Google assistant products.

2. Microsoft "Be The One"

The second ad is the Microsoft “Be The One” commercial. This ad consisted of San Francisco 49ers assistant coach Katie Sowers. She has made history being the first openly gay and woman to coach the Superbowl. The ad is approximately 60 seconds long and it highlights how Coach Sowers has pioneered her way into becoming the first woman football coach while also inspiring other women to do the same. In the commercial, she is holding a Microsoft device which she mentions how it has helped her in her coaching journey. Microsoft adding an inspirational message to promoting a device was the best way to go as it caught the attention of many.

3. Kia “Never Give Up”

The third ad is the Kia "Never Give Up" ad. This one-minute ad consists of Josh Jacobs, running back for the Las Vegas Raiders sending an inspirational message that no one knew before. In the ad, Jacobs is driving in the Kia Selto advising his younger self in the passenger seat right next to him. He mentions how he grew up homeless and how that still didn't stop him from chasing his dreams. The ad ends with Jacobs on the field with a huge crowd getting ready to play in a game. The tone at the end of the ad is motivational, inspiring and even emotional. It was also known that this was the first time football player Josh Jacobs has so publicly shared his story of working his way up. Kia using their platform to advertise their most recent car while also sending an inspirational message to young dreamers had all of our attention.

4. Michelob Ultra Pure Gold “6 for 6 Pack”

The third ad is Michelob's Ultra Pure Gold "6 for 6 Pack" commercial for its organic beer. The 60-second ad consisted of the company letting their consumers know if they buy a six-pack, a portion of the sales will go to farmers transitioning their farmland to organic. In the ad, this Anheuser Busch owned brand states that the Michelob Ultra Pure Gold is the first beer in the U.S to be USDA- certified organic. The ad ends with the company letting the public know how they can help with the cause. Michelob took an advocative tone with this ad advertising sustainability and encouraging everyone watching to contribute to the cause.

As we can see, although there is a variety in the creative direction of each ad, they all had a common theme. It seems as though these companies are marketing not only to advertise their products but also conveying a message of advocacy and inspiration to the viewers watching. As we pick our favorite ads of this year, let's look forward to the next best ones next year.
